Synopsis

After 30 years research with Philips Electronics and NXP Semiconductors, I am now Technical Consultant and Managing Partner with RFSA Consulting. The business offers expert design and consulting services to industry, mainly in the areas of RF systems, microwave components and filters.

My research career with Philips splits broadly into two halves: for 15 years I studied the design of microwave systems and components, with a special interest in advanced filter design by exact synthesis; for the second 15 years I studied RF transceiver system design for a range of portable wireless products but with a particular emphasis on cellular applications. In both cases I became widely published and eventually became responsible as technical lead for the research activities within Philips UK. After a predominantly technical career culminating in the position of Research Fellow, I was briefly appointed Department Head of a 35-man research group within Philips Research. As a consequence of the sale of Philips Semiconductors however, I left soon afterwards to become Department Head for NXP Research in the UK. My group carried out a diverse programme of research on radio systems.

I have published in the order of 45 external papers, written a book, filed more than 50 patents and been a regular presenter at international conferences. I am a Fellow of the IET, a chartered engineer, a senior member of the IEEE and a former member of the Technical Programme Committer for the EuMC.
